SOLLY’S ROSH HASHANAH MENU

For 21 years Solly’s Bagelry has been providing Jewish families with delicious Bakery & Deli foods for their High Holiday meals. Solly’s  foods continue to be made from scratch, using all natural ingredients, made in the Traditional way. Round Challah –  (Seasonal) y, f, e, su, sa

Traditional round Holiday Challah is baked for Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year).  It is larger (approx 700gm) than our regular Challa Bread.   Our Challah is sweetened with honey, not sugar.

Round Challah w/ Raisins –  (Seasonal) y, f, e, su, sa

Traditional round Holiday Challah bread is larger (approx 700gm) than our regular challah (600gm) and is made even sweeter by adding raisins. This Challah is made only in the fall for Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year).

Pumpernickel Marble Bagels –  v, y, f, su, sa

Solly’s Bagels are made fresh daily using only ‘wholesome’ ingredients.  Our bagels are kettle boiled, and baked in the traditional way to yield a bagel that is crusty on the outside and is chewy and flavourful inside. Solly’s bagels have No Fat or No Eggs added, are Cholesterol Free and are Vegan 

Mini Bagels – same allergens as large size

Mini bagels are smaller 50 gm  bagels sold by the ½ dozen. They come as Poppy, Sesame and Plain.  Product must be pre ordered.  

Solly’s Rye Bread  – v, y, f, sa

Solly’s delicious rye bread is made in the traditional way with rye flours and lightly flavoured with ground caraway. Our sliced Rye bread has no preservatives added and should be put in the freezer after 3 – 4 days to prevent mold.  

Lavash – v, y, f, su, sa, se

Solly’s Lavash is a baked Mediterranean flat bread made with our bagel dough and covered with sesame seeds and a sprinkle of coarse salt.  It is a delicious dipping cracker to have on the table with such items as Hummus or Eggplant mix.  It is a light and crunchy snack.

Chicken Soup – sa

Jewish Penicillin!   An excellent clear broth chicken soup filled  with chicken and veggies, made with no additive powders or MSG. This soup is traditionally served at the beginning of a Jewish meat meal with Matzah Balls.  For Rosh Hashanah, one litre yields approximately 4 -5 servings with one matzoh ball per bowl.

Matzah Balls (for the chicken soup) – f, e, sa

A traditional Jewish dumpling made with matzo meal, eggs, oil and seasoning served floating in our Chicken Soup or in Veggie soup  *Note: After thawing out let balls simmer in soup to absorb soup flavors. In a hurry, the balls can be dropped into hot water to speed up thawing or wrapped in Saran wrap and microwaved to heat. This product is sold frozen in a pack of 6.

Vegetarian Soups –  v,df (except split pea)

We make about 10 varieties of delicious vegetarian soups. During Rosh Hashanah the popular varieties are cabbage borscht, potato carrot and yammy carrot. Please Note: Pea soup has dairy.  All other vegetarian soups are vegan and dairy free, one liter yields approximately 4 – 5  Rosh Hashanah size servings with one matzoh ball 

Potato Kugelette –  (Seasonal)df, f, e, sa

A mini version of a potato kugel made with grated potato, eggs, onions, matzo meal and spices. Serving is one kuglette per person and is only made for Passover and Rosh Hashanah

Gefilte Fish –  (Seasonal) df, f, e, sa

Solly’s special ‘in house’ recipe. A mixture of ground cod, snapper and salmon formed into oval balls and baked. These are usually served with red horseradish. Gefilte Fish is freshly made for Rosh Hashanah and sold by the piece.

Veggie Meatball – n, d, f, e, su, sa, se,

A delicious  vegetarian alternative to serving meat. Our Sweet & Sour Vegetarian Meatballs are served hot with a sweet & sour tomato sauce. They are made with matzo meal, walnuts cream cheese, and cheddar.  This product is sold by the piece.  2 balls is a good suggestion to serve per person at a Holiday meal

Apple Slice (cake) -df ci, su, sa, e

This old fashioned traditional Apple Slice (Cake) recipe is made with fresh apples and cinnamon sugar.  This product is sold by the peice and is dairy free.

 Sour Cream Cake – d, n, f, e, su, sa, ci

This is a traditional rich coffee cake, made with walnuts, sour cream, and cinnamon.  Keeps on the counter a long time.  A perfect choice with coffee after a big dairy meal.  This product is sold by the peice

Honey (Spice) Cake – (Seasonal) df, n, f, e, su, ci, sa

Traditional Jewish New Year’s cake sold only in September, sold by the slab with almonds on top or as bundts with or without almonds, but yummy all year round. With honey and spices, it tastes better as it ages. Sold as a small bundt cake (feeds 6 to 8) or by the slab (24 pieces) with or without almonds. It is Dairy free

Chocolate Almond Meringues – df, n, co, e, su, sa, wf

A delicious meringue made with almonds, Belgian chocolate chunks, and egg whites. This treat is delicious and highly addictive! 

Date Nut Macaroons – df,wf, n, co, e, su, sa

A delicious macaroon cookie made with coconut, dates and walnuts. It is chewy andcrunchy at the same time.

Oatmeal Poppy Cookies – d, f, e, su, sa

These mini cookies are made with oatmeal and poppy seeds, and sprinkled with sugar. Not too sweet and great for dipping into coffee or tea.  These cookies are sold in 300 gm packages

*Note: These cookies look like they have nuts due to the oatmeal texture, but they are nut free

Mandelbroit  – (Seasonal) n, f, e, su, sa, ci

A Jewish tea dipping cookie (like biscotti) made with almonds, dipped in cinnamon sugar made in the fall for Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year). These cookies are sold in 12 piece packages

Apple Strudel – d, f, su, sa, ci

Our strudel is famous for being a delicious flakey pastry filled with fresh apples, cinnamon, sugar and raisins. This product is sold frozen for ready bake at home, or fresh by the slice, or as a whole baked uncut strudel.

Blueberry Apple Strudel – d, f, su, sa, ci

Our famous strudel, filled with frozen B.C. Blueberries, fresh apples, raisins and cinnamon. Sold frozen out of our deli display freezer for ready bake at home, or fresh by the slice,or as a whole baked uncut strude

Apple Honey Rugoleh –  (Seasonal) d, nf, e, su, sa, f

Made with butter and cream cheese pastry and filled with a honey, apple mixture, these pastries have been described as “three bites of heaven”.  Apple Honey Rugoleh are made in the fall for Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year). *Note: customers can re-bake for 10 minutes at 350°F in a home oven to make them crispy again.

Orange Poppy Roll – (Seasonal) df, f, e, su, sa

Orange flavoured dough rolled up with honey poppy seed filling. Sold in Chunks for Rosh Hashanah

Apricot Nut  Roll (Seasonal)df, f, e, su, sa,n (almonds, walnuts)

Orange flavoured dough rolled up with delicious Apricot nut spread. Sold  in Chunks  for Rosh Hashan
Potato & Onion Knish-Regular size or Mini – v, f, sa

Flakey pastry stuffed with mashed potatoes and onions sold by the piece as fresh baked, or as packages of 12 mini fresh baked or in packages of 8 frozen “ready to bake” in packages out of the freezer

Spinach & Mushroom Knish- Regular size or Mini  – v, f, sa

Flakey pastry stuffed with mashed potatoes, onions, spinach and mushrooms sold by the piece as fresh baked, or in packages of 12 mini fresh baked or in packages of 8 frozen “ready to bake” packages out of the freezer

Sweet Potato & Raisin Knish  –  v, f, su, sa

Flakey pastry stuffed with mashed sweet potatoes, raisins and onions. These knishes are only sold fresh baked.

 

YOM KIPPUR – BREAK THE FAST

Cottage Cheese Muffin – d, f, e, su, sa

Made with cottage cheese, these muffins have a unique texture and flavor that is indescribably good. Recommended to serve at home warmed and topped  with Solly’s Strawberry sauce, or at room temperature, with or without jam.

Blintzes – d, f, e, su, sa

Low fat white cheese mix rolled up in a crepe and fried in butter until golden. Blintzes are best served warm with strawberry sauce and/or sour cream. Solly’s also sells blintzes frozen unfried “ready to cook” out of the freezer in packages of 6 or as individual blintzes pre fried in singles

Lokshen Kugel Buntletts – d, f, e, su, sa, ci *NEW

A traditional Jewish pudding made with egg noodles, cream cheese, cinnamon and raisins. this kugel is made as a single serving and  is ideal for a brunch or breakfast choice.

Packaged Lox – su, sa, K

B.C. sliced wild sockeye smoked salmon sold in an 85g bresliced package out of the cooler or freezer. It is also sold as a 200 gm or 650gm pre sliced out of the freezer

Solly’s Cream Cheeses – d,

Dairy low fat (19%) Cream Cheese come in Plain, Fresh Dill, Fresh Chive & Garlic, and Samon

Cheese Bourekasd, e,

An Israeli Savory snack made with feta/ricotta filling and puff pastry. Incredible flavor hot out of the oven.
